Our aim is to ensure your birthing experience is centered around your choices, and that you are given information to assist you to make choices which are based on the most up to date evidence and made by informed consent. Our post-natal environment is aimed at supporting parents to build their confidence in how best to care for their newborn baby. 

Logan Hospital has birthing suites with individual ensuites. We support women in their birthing choices and facilitate active labour, by encouraging mobilisation, and maintenance of normality, by having dimmed lighting and music available. We have showers available in all birth suite rooms, and we are looking forward to introducing birthing pools in our refurbished unit.

We have 24/7 obstetric and paediatric support and a Special Care Nursery.

A birthing suite lounge with tea and coffee making facilities is available for support people to have a short break during labour. Food is available at cafes on the second floor of the hospital or at the nearby shops.

When to come to hospital

Phone the hospital on 3299 8899 and ask for Birthing Suite if you are in labour or have any other worries about your pregnancy.

If you are less than 20 weeks pregnant and experiencing problems, please contact your own GP or phone the hospital 3299 8899 and ask for the emergency department.

Please phone prior to coming into the Birthing Suite to allow the midwife to assess your progress and prepare for your arrival. Some of the other reasons you may need to come to hospital include if:

• your waters break
• contractions become too painful to cope with at home
• vaginal bleeding occurs
• your baby is not moving as much as normal
• you are worried about yourself or your baby.

You will be provided with admission information and what to pack in your hospital bag at your antenatal appointments.

Photographs and video

In the Birthing Suite, photographing birth is permissible at the request of the mother, remembering the importance of making sure care of the mother is the main focus of support people. Videoing of births requires the permission of all staff present and must not prevent staff from immediately attending to mother and baby.

For safety reasons, photographs of births in the Operating Theatre may be taken by staff only.

Members of the hospital staff should not be photographed or filmed without their individual consent. 

Please discuss your wishes for photography and videoing with the midwife at your antenatal appointments well before your baby is due.
