Are you referring to the right service?

  • The service does not offer a primary medico-legal assessment
  • Cases where the predominant presentation is that of mental health or substance use are best managed before referral
  • Refer to acute care clinic (neurosurgery/neurology) or ED for conditions such as new onset fitting, new onset aggression, altered mobility, etc.
  • Queensland Paediatric Rehabilitation Service (QPRS) for patients <16 years
  • Geriatric Rehabilitation for patients >70 years

To arrange an urgent review, please phone the relevant hospital’s switchboard and ask to speak to the Registrar of the relevant specialty.

Out of scope services

For Hypertonicity clinic:

  • Patients with multiple sclerosis should be referred to the MS society
  • Spinal patients should be referred to the Spinal Unit
  • The service is not funded to see patients with Cerebral Palsy

  • Brain Injury Rehabilitation and Hypertonicity Clinic are a state wide service.

Out of catchment

Metro South Health is responsible for providing public health services to the people who reside within its boundaries. Special consideration is made for patients requiring tertiary care or services that are not provided by their local Hospital and Health Service.  If your patient lives outside the Metro South Health area and you wish to refer them to one of our services, inclusion of information regarding their particular medical and social factors will assist with the triaging of your referral.
