The Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee (QEII) Hospital Expansion Project (the Project) is one of the 15 hospital expansion projects identified in the June 2022 Qld State budget under the Capital Expansion Program (CEP). The $465M project will deliver a range of service increases at QEII Hospital including growth of 112 overnight beds and will help meet the growing demand for health services on Brisbane’s southside.
What's included in the expansion?
The QEII Hospital Expansion Project will deliver a new five level building providing:
- an additional 112 beds and treatment spaces
- increase of surgical and ICU capacity
- expansion and improvements to existing infrastructure, clinical support, and operational service support areas
Why are we expanding QEII Hospital?
The QEII Project is a priority for MSH to ensure that it can continue to meet the health care demands of its growing catchment.
QEII Hospital requires increased capacity and capability to:
- better respond to the current and projected demand for health services from a growing and ageing population
- Support MSH to meet the increasing surgical demands of the community it serves
- Deliver against the MSH strategic priority to deliver great value by building the future healthcare facilities the community needs, and by improving existing facilities and equipment to ensure they are fit for purpose.
How did you determine which services to expand?
Careful and considered planning is required for any new public infrastructure investment.
- a detailed analysis of clinical service demands and population projections
- feedback from staff and stakeholders
- input from building design, engineering and clinical experts.
This work ensures we have a robust and deliverable plan that meets the needs of the community now and into the future.
