Better healthcare services, closer to home are now a reality for the Logan community, with the opening of Logan Hospital’s new Birthing Suites and Transit Care Hub this week.
The new services are part of the Queensland Government’s more than $1 billion investment in the hospital to provide significantly increased capacity and modern facilities for the growing Logan community.
The Transit Care Hub features 24 new beds and chairs, which will increase to 33 by early next year. The number of Birthing Suites has increased to 12, with eight new birthing pools also installed.
Minister for Health and Ambulance Services Shannon Fentiman said she was thrilled to be able to deliver this vital health infrastructure for the people of Logan.
“The boost to capacity is just the beginning of one of the state’s largest ever hospital expansion projects, which will deliver 206 additional beds and treatment spaces by the end of next year, and a further 112 beds by 2026.
“Logan is one of the fastest growing regions in the state and this investment will ensure we can keep up with demand while providing the best possible healthcare experience through access to contemporary facilities and state-of-the-art technology.
“Increasing the capacity of the Transit Care Hub will provide a more streamlined admission and discharge process – helping to free up acute beds for those who need them most.
“While the Birthing Suites are a welcomed addition for expecting mothers in this community, I’m excited to provide this choice to local women for the first time.
Treasurer and Member for Woodridge Cameron Dick said the fit-out of these new services was something the community had been calling for.
“This will significantly boost capacity of the hospital and provide some much-needed relief for the emergency department, that provides care to more than 100,000 patients each year."
