CAREPACT Symposium wrap-up

20 June 2023

The CAREPACT Symposium, Aged Awareness: Working with the older person in the RACF, held on Saturday 3 June was a wonderful display of unity between Metro South Health’s CAREPACT team and the Brisbane South Primary Health Network (BSPHN).

Together, they showcased their unwavering commitment to the well-being of the older person and ongoing support for the Residential Aged Care Facility (RACF) staff.

The Symposium boasted an exceptional line-up of speakers who captivated the audience with their expertise.

Esteemed guests included Dr Kay Patterson from the Human Rights Commission, Darren Young from Council on the Ageing, Rhiannon Shannon from Aged and Disability Advocates Australia, Dr Ellen Burkett from the Health Improvement Unit, RACF Facility Manager Ashley Bowkett, and CAREPACTs own Dr Terry Nash, Juliana Friedrich and Meegan Bailey.

Throughout the day, the discussions ignited deep introspection, prompting attendees to contemplate their own practices in caring for residents and advocating for RACF staff.

The Symposium not only showcased captivating discussions but also featured an engaging marketplace that was brimming with informative stalls.

Participants had the pleasure of exploring booths from organisations such as Wounds Specialist Services, Dementia Training Australia, BSPHN, the Advance Care Planning team, the Metro South Public Health Unit, and the Aged & Community Care Providers Association.

There were numerous prizes on offer throughout the day with the grand finale prize going to Teena Thomas from Jimbelunga, who walked away with a well-deserved reward and a beaming smile.

CAREPACT Nurse Educator Meegan Bailey said the Symposium was an unforgettable experience for all who attended.

“There’s lots of amazing people who are very passionate about aged care and lots of good work being done out there,” she said.

“Participants have been left with a renewed sense of purpose and as we eagerly anticipate next year’s event, we extend our gratitude to all involved in making this day a resounding success.”
