The Centre for Functioning and Health Research (CFAHR) is a team of researchers and allied health professionals dedicated to improving patient health and the provision of healthcare services. CFAHR was established in 2010. The initial positions were created through partnership between Metro South Hospital and Health Service (MSHHS) and three local universities (The University of Queensland, Queensland University of Technology and Griffith University).
The current centre team represents staff with conjoint and/or affiliate positions across multiple university partners. Having strong linkages between health, our university partners, and other external organisations is central to the allied health research capacity building services provided by the CFAHR team.
CFAHR provides professional research support to allied health staff across Metro South Health and strategic research leadership to MSHHS and the Allied Health Profession’s Office of Queensland (AHPOQ). With a focus on research capacity building, CFAHR is committed to driving research growth and experience across the allied health workforce. CFAHR’s partnerships with clinicians, health services, community care providers, industry and university partners support the completion of high-quality research that is focused on current clinical issues and health priorities. CFAHR’s research outcomes contribute to direct benefits for patients, as well as service innovation and healthcare redesign across local, national and international settings.
In line with CFAHR’s commitment to supporting allied health staff across Metro South Health, CFAHR researchers regularly provide training and support focused on assisting clinicians to develop and deliver high-quality research and service improvement projects. Examples of the type/s of support provided by CFAHR include assistance to develop project aims and methods, conduct projects, disseminate outcomes, and/or source funding where appropriate. CFAHR also aims to promote health professional research career pathways, with team members regularly supervising research higher degree students.
